4M, The HAL9000 Inspired Wooden PC From Love Hultén:
We have featured a number of these awesome custom PCs from PC modder extraordinaire Love Hultén before at Geeky Gadgets, his latest creation is called the 4M and it takes its design inspiration from HAL9000.
Love dropped us an email to let us know about the 4M, and his latest PC is a smaller device than his previous creations, and as well as being inspired by HAL9000 it is also a tribute to sci-fi in general.

Zynga Buys ‘Draw Something’ Game Maker OMGPOP:
Zynga has acquired OMGPOP, the maker of one of the most popular mobile games at the moment ‘Draw Something’, and whilst no details on the deal have been disclosed, there are reports that Zynga have paid around $200 million for OMGPOP.
Draw Something is extremely popular, the game has been downloaded more than 30 million times, and is played in 84 countries around the world.

MIT Develops Camera That Can See Around Corners (Video):
Scientists at the Massachusetts Institute of Technology in Cambridge have created a camera which can basically see around corners using lasers.
They use a laser pulse to bounce photons of surfaces, the photos then travel back to the camera and it can measure how far away an unseen object is, have a look at the video of it in cation below.

I was never a fan of the original 60s Batman series. It seemed like it was constantly on in the summers when I was a kid. I did watch the 89 Tim Burton movie and found it to cartoonish and over-the-top for my taste. I’m a much bigger fan of the gritty Christian Bale version of Batman.

MIT 研發雷射相機，可拍到牆壁後面的物體，怎麼辦到的？: 誰說拍照只能拍眼前的景像、躲在牆後的影像就拍不出來？ MIT Media Lab 最新呈現的雷射相機可能會打破大家對拍照的印象，透過發出雷射光，讓光子經由牆壁擴散等打到被射體身上、最後再由相機接收光子、藉此描繪出 3D 影像。
現在的相機、包含先拍照再對焦的光場相機，都只能記錄眼睛所及範圍內的影像，躲在牆壁後面等眼睛看不到的場景，只有紅外線探測器，以及超人等科幻電影中的人物才辦的到；不過MIT Media Lab已經打破這個規則，可以拍到隱藏在牆壁後面的物體。MIT所研發的雷射相機，會發射出雷射光，當光子(photon)碰到牆面會擴散、再碰到被射物體時再度擴散...以此類推，最終會有少部分光子會回到雷射相機，被相機接收後，系統再以接收到光子的時間差、換算為次毫米(Sub-mm)距離，累積起來即可建構出一個3D影像。
雷射相機作法有些類似電腦斷層掃描攝影(CAT Scan，Computed Axial Tomography)，也很接近聲納的原理，就把雷射相機想成是光聲納就對了。目前MIT這款雷射相機需要花上數分鐘才能建構出拍攝的3D影像，但團隊希望未來能將時間縮短為10秒，當然雷射相機的技術也不會短時間內出現在消費型產品上。雷射相機將可運用在多種環境中，例如搜救任務可先用來探測失火、崩塌建築物內是否有倖存者；或是用來拍攝機械的內部。

要求手繪 Logo 字體的迷思！怎麼讓現成字體也很有個性: 這是一個 logo 設計上的迷思，我常常聽到客戶要求：不要使用市面上的字體，那會跟別人一樣，我要「完全手繪的字體」。 透過長年的訪談結果，他們的迷思通常是：字體好貴，現成的字體會跟別人一樣，但往往自己手繪產生出來的結果都很糟，雖然好的例子也有，但真的很少。
這是一個 logo 設計上的迷思，我常常聽到客戶要求：
不要使用市面上的字體，那會跟別人一樣，我要「完全手繪的字體」。
透過長年的訪談結果，他們的迷思通常是：
  • 字體好貴
  • 現成的字體會跟別人一樣
但往往自己手繪產生出來的結果都很糟，雖然好的例子也有，但真的很少。因此在這裡我要告訴大家兩個經驗：
  1. 現成的字體很便宜，且精緻
  2. 使用現成的字體不會跟別人一樣

現成的字體很便宜，且精緻

請人手繪一個有水準的字體並不便宜，不管他是在紙上作業，還是電腦作業，都可能花上你3000~15000元不等（國外應該更貴）。但是如果去買一套現有的字體，應該只需要1500元左右。也因為公開販賣字體，所以價格比自己請一個人特別來做還便宜。就成本上來說，你應該選擇去購買現成設計好的字體。
現在電腦都有內建為數眾多的字體（有時我們可能會叫做預設字體，例如 Arial, Times, Verdana… 等這些），所以一個特別的字體要賣出去，不但必須要有特色、細節品質也會上好很多！

現成的字體不會跟別人一樣

如果你會擔心別人跟你買了一樣的字體，就會沒有特色了… 那你務必看看以下這幾個 logo：

上面三個 logo 使用的字體都是 “Helvetica”，也是 Mac 電腦內建的字體，都可以有這麼不同的表現。如果你是去買別人的字體，那發揮的空間就更大了。舉例來說，你可以購買現成的字體來做小幅度更改：
Facebook logo 使用的字體是 klavika，僅更改了 “F” & “a” 兩個字母的細節，讓他有連結的感覺。
evendesign logo 使用的字體是 rukou，只是把字母連起來，讓它的整體感更強烈：
RocoDev logo 使用的字體較為複雜，它使用了兩種字體組合而成：
以上幾個例子，就證明了使用現成市面上販售字體，也可以有非常獨特的效果。
最後，如果你不知道現成的字體哪裡買，可以多逛逛 fontshop.com 這網站上販售的字體品質都非常好。如果沒有任何想法，不知道怎麼找字體，建議可以訂他們家的電子報，他們每月不定期會推薦一些很好的字體，或是新出爐的字體，相對撞字機率也低。
